ONLINE EDUCATION : GADGET CONTROLLED EDUCATION!!!!!
“I am not an enthusiast about on-line teaching. We need human interface with students for good communication. That is how young minds can be inspired”, said Prof.C.N.R Rao
Do you ever feel fatigued, felt strain in your eyes, get eye watered after gazing for long time on the Screen almost whole day, including your online studies at present condition of pandemic?
Do you think our EDUCATION system should have more better infrastructure to cope up with such pandemic in future? Do you not think the authorities are taking the decision of Online Education in haste? Do you think Online Education can replace Onsite Education?
Undoubtedly, the pandemic has shattered the backbone of every sector of the country and Education is not an Exception. Almost every schools, colleges and universities have been closed from March of 2020,and students are residing in their homes and their home cities from that period, and ingoing studies have been disrupted due to closure of their institution, and that's why it seems difficult to continue their normal studies, because many students who have been living hostels , not brought their text-books, copies and other academic material, so that they could continue their studies.
Meanwhile, due to rampant Covid cases, the government has extended the closure of School, College and Universities till August 31st in Unlock-3. Now our colleges, schools and universities for the sake of continuing classes they have OVERNIGHT shifted to online education as our PM shifted overnight to CASHLESS ECONOMY during the Demonetization on November 8,2016.
Authorities should first prepare a firm foundation for Online Education in our Education System, Yes I am sure it is Compatible for Eminent Institutions like IITs, IIMs, and other renowned Universities of the country which have robust infrastructure but the aim of Online Education can not full-filled unless the voluntary participation of Students. And when it comes to participation of students, it is a grave matter of concern. How student participate in these sessions of Online Education? How student can leverage and utilise their house arrest in productive learning?
When it comes to Online Education, then there arises a serious question on the violation of "RIGHT TO EDUCATION" for every child. The serious in our country is still the the negligence of Poor And Marginalised section of our society in every policies. Yes the online classes can be attended and benefitted by the so called Elite class of the minuscule amount of people and a large section of children are being deprived of this opportunity because, many household families can't afford a SMART-PHONE, so that their children could continue their studies without disruption.A Ted-Talk about E-learning --
Let us think for a moment, they can afford a Smart phone , Tablet or PC, but what's about Electricity which is a kind of indispensable in this era, but unfortunately many villages in our country have very poor electricity supply and line loss, low voltage, transformer blast , and interruption in power supply for several days with any prior notice are very serious obstacle in Online Education. If you take Online Classes, what about those children of migrant labourers whose children were enrolled in Government Primary Schools, now have migrated to their villages due to lack of jobs in cities , they can't afford SMART-PHONE or PC because they are Hand to Mouth people and it is even hard for them to full-fill their basic need of food, shelter and clothing. Then, considering above reasons, it is totally foolish to talk about Online Education. Also, there is a great problem of space in Lower-middle class families especially in those where children are very small, they are not compatible with these classes.
According to census 2011 , 71% of household with three or more members have dwelling with two or less rooms(74% in rural and 64% in urban areas).
According to National Sample Survey data for 2017-18, only 42% of urban and 15% of rural household had internet access and only 34% of urban and 11% of rural person had used the in past 30 days, so authorities should understand and must not take any decision for mere self-interest because the foolish decision are more liable to create chaos and unrest in Student Fraternity. Problem is not just over here, the list is very long a d the authorities should first sort out these issues before jumping into Online Education, because the metamorphosis from Onsite education to Online Education need a good amount of time to make it reach, to the child standing at the last in the queue, if above serious problems would not solved, then Only Elite class will be benefitted by Online Education and the gap between Rich and Poor will widen more and more.
If some students some how manage the device and necessary equipment for these online education, then they get failed on the Network connectivity utmost-time, they get dropped-out of the lectures frequently because tele-come companies are betraying us on the name of 4G network and they are not even catering 3G services in the name of 4G and in a sense looting the money of customer, so government need to intervene in such matters to boost the Online Education because uninterrupted Internet Connectivity is back bone of Online Education.
One, thing I want to convey clearly that Onsite Education can never be replaced Online Education. Campuses are places of diversity where each and every student hails from different background, still come and unite on a One Campus, understand and appreciate mutual diversity, and talk on different issues which enhances and widen their horizon of understanding our society, which is a very good thing for our students. You need to come out of your bed-room, then only you can be truly Educated. It is not a thing you can get at a Click. In my opinion, Online Education should be considered as a Option not as a Priority.
