When it comes to "POLITICS", everyone at a time becomes skeptical, but today here we will have a deep insight into "STUDENT POLITICS".
Is it necessary for students to be Politically active and aware? Why students participation in National politics is crucial for the development of Competent Political Class in any country?
Today we will try to find out relevant answers to justify why students politics should be celebrated and propagated across each and every colleges and universities of the country. Now, I am also very much sure, some students will ask, what for those who doesn't want to disrupt their study due to Political activity? They are also relevant with their questions. But, what I think is colleges are not mere a place for you to acquire a degree and passing exams, it is beyond that, just passing exams are not enough. It is said that students politics instills in you a habit of Critical think and of asking questions against injustice and reckless use of power by established authorities which would be very useful and beneficial for you to lead a peaceful and happy life.
The average age of 17th Lok Sabha is noted to be 54 years and 12 % of MPs are below the age of 40.These 12% are no other than the descendants of Political dynasty, of you are aware very well. Then, we can say "India is Young, not it's leaders" and this needs to be addressed by various political stakeholders.
Is student politics a road to Parliament?
India has almost about 150 years old history of students politics which is a very good and favourable thing for us, as a student, because you are a student and whenever any type threat or domestic violence which happens in our society, you need to ask questions and oppose such incident, so you need to be POLITICAL and you can't claim yourself Apolitical.
But, we are noticing that campuses are not offering a relevant POLITICAL SPACE to it's student and that's why they are under-developed politically, we have very less Universities and colleges where students are politically active and doing On-campus politics. The private colleges hardly encourage and allows it's student to form Political union or societies, Why there is so much fear in such private colleges and universities? They are repeatedly heard to say that colleges and universities are a place for ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE , not a place of Political Discourse and Debate but I think it is LAME EXCUSE, what is the value of mere paper degrees, if we don't have any Rational and Critical view on incident, which are happening every hour all around us, and it is also a part of our Education because may in future you or I lead the top democratic institutions of our country and have to negotiate with various countries for the benefit of our Nation, and ultimately a informed Citizen of India.
But it is very pathetic and annoying to see the fading shine of Student Politics, and a student is losing his Political space day by day which is very unfortunate, because student politics is a very strong platform to show our dissent for government or any established authorities. But, it is also a fact that whenever student rise to protest against any issues, they are frequently suppressed by respective government of that time instead of resolving and listening to their demands which is very harmful for our democratic setup.
We have also seen that in last 5 to 6 years the student politics has turned into "UGLY POLITICS" which used to do very constructive and responsible politics, so everyone is trying to keep themselves away from this in fear of defamed.
And it is also very heinous to see the students politics is now a days turning into Politics of Revenge.
University politics bring us to people of diverse backgrounds and culture, then they debate on different issues of National Interest, which brings out useful conclusion and suggestion for our country and our campuses meant for that very constructive politics, students are emerging as a constructive opposition which bis going to play very crucial role for our Democracy and students are very important element of out democracy. A good Ted-talk by Political Analyst---
India has produced various politicians and responsible ministers who have played very decisive role in strengthening our democratic set-up, we have produced for example--our finance minister Arun Jaitely, HRD minister Prakash Javadekar, Dharmendra Pradhan, Vice-President Venkaiya Naidu, Finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman, Sitaram Yechury, Congress leader Anand Sharma, Jai Prakash Narayan(JP), Chief minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar, Former chief minister Lalu yadav, Law & IT minister Jai Sankar Prasad, West Bengal chief minister Mamta Banarjee and the list is endless. Undoubtedly India has produced very prominent leaders from Student Politics, and I think our Universities should reconsider this again a d allows students to show their dissent on various issues which are happening all around us in a peaceful and non-violent manner.
Universities should frequently arrange debate and discourse on various flagrant issues of the country to bring out useful conclusion out of it. If we couldn't instill life in dying student politics which should be constructive, then we might fail to bring finest brains into our mainstream politics. Every profession has it's own challenges and dangers which could be fixed with time. A programme by Rajya Sabha TV--
A very stern message,I want to leave--
"Student Politics should be Constructive those student politics which tries to divide and disintegrate the country's Social Ethos and Sovereignty can never be Accepted".
