India is a vast country with huge explosion of population progressively each and every day and to make the youth population of this country a productive asset who will lead the country's and world's development a bit easier, we have established a number of universities in the country. According to data give by UGC, (a statutory body for Higher Education in India ) as on 01/06/2020 is--
State Universities--- 412
Deemed to be Universities---124
Central Universities---53
Private Universities---356
The total number of the universities in India becomes 945 which appears to Cumin in Camel's Mouth.
According to data given by MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource Development), body on Higher Education, the total number of IITs across the country are 23 and IIMs are 20.The total number of NITs in the country are 31,a IISc Bengaluru and about 65 ICAR (Indian Council of Agricultural Research) Institutes in the country.
It is very unfortunate that no Indian universities can make up there position in top 100 institutes of World ranking.
According to IMD( International Institute for Management Development ) is a business education school located in Switzerland, India spend about 4.6% of it's total GDP on education and ranks 62nd in total public expenditure on education per student, which lags behind developed countries like USA, UK etc and even behind many developing countries of the world.
Why our Universities are lagging?
India, a place which has world's oldest universities like NALANDA and Taxila, we're once the Great learning Centre for foreign scholar, students is losing it's legacy to shine in the education sector on Global Diaspora. It is very painful as a pan-Indian to see the downfall of the education sector in India and if one educated youth raises his voice to ask questions to established authorities, then they try to suppress their voice and pacify their rage for flaws in the Education System. Why is it so?
We have learnt and widen our horizon, so will definitely questions your each and every steps, raise our strong voice for the people who stand last in the queue of Justice for Right to Education.
The UGC has been dominated and intervened by government from time to time and have to take various decision under political pressure to frame policies for education, but didn't understand why they fail to analyse the fading education quality especially for example--conventional learning and evaluation techniques like giving exams based on lengthy syllabus, to mere say university student does not come to only rot the answers as a parrot because there is most intelligent companion, we do not need to learn all the facts and answers. Our universities should be more focused on research and problem solving approaches instead of only passing exams and taking mere degree of papers.
We as a nation has failed to produce world class institution which can compete with globally established institutions like MIT, Cambridge, Oxford, Stanford and many more.... In last 50 to 60 years we have failed to produce Noble Laureate in the field of Science.
A Ted-talk--
We can argue we have institutions of world class research facilities but unfortunately it is very meagre to feed and satiate the rising demand of innovation and invention across the country and world.
The Bharat which was once "VISHWA GURU", has came to very pathetic condition in the field of education. Our graduate students have no extra job skills so that they can prove to be beneficial for the society. There are World-universities which are producing very exceptional Research work and innovation in every area.
The methodologies of these institutions need to be analysed and used according to our comfort and suitability, the UGC should not be driven with predisposed mindset of established sitting government, they should be give full chance to work independently in collaboration with our various Higher Education institutions which could bring deep insight for the development of these universities both in terms of Quality and Research. Our universities should be given full-fledge freedom to function and properly funded to drive the Research work which is in favour of our own country and even world
Research and it's outcome plays one of the most decisive role in determining the ranking of Universities or institutions on the Global Map. We need to introduce phenomenal reforms in education sector viz-In universities, the students should be given full freedom to tap their hidden talent which may be of varied type, then only he/she could become a responsible and informed citizens if our country.
One, the most thing we need to introduce is FOREIGN EXCHANGE " Programmes for students of various streams through which they can learn new ideas and appreciate more closely the culture and tradition of other countries and after all he could respect the diversities across the world as a part of human life.
A Good ted-talk --
Recently, our government was committed to introduce New Education Policy but still it has not been introduced. Our government has done a commendable job by giving the status of "INSTITUTE OF EMINENCE" to our universities to make them withstand against Global standards.
Still I say there is more reforms needed to be introduced in our Higher Education Institutions to make them Global one, so that foreign students love Indian Universities as their first choice of higher education.
At last,I hope our education system will be so much vibrant and phenomenal so that once again we will reclaim our title of "VISHWA GURU" with firm foundation in the field of Education on Global stage.
